HER-1

The world has changed. Many women are able to study, pursue higher education, find jobs, and many more, but their families or their society still control them.

I do not understand these things called… allowing her, giving her, sending her…. Who are you and I to let her do…. That is her damn life and she should allow herself …. She should be able to make her own decisions ...to do things she loves ...to do what she wants to do .... she should live her life the way she wants it to be and not according to how you set it up!

Here, girls are mentally prepared from childhood to obey others, to always live life according to someone else's rules. She is taught to always put herself in second place, leaving first place to society or family. She is molded to accept that is the life she should live.

In her home, she should not compare herself to her brothers or any other male. She should not raise her voice... she should not ask questions; she shouldn't earn more than the male.

A girl who raises her voice is finally labelled as arrogant and spoiled.

In her husband's home, she should not earn more than her husband. She should not compare herself to her husband. She should not take part in critical decision making. Her thoughts, her opinions, are least bothered. Even in situations like giving birth to a child…. It is the family that decides when to have a child, how many children she can give birth to....

Yes, days have changed and they are still changing but that does not mean women are fully liberated.

A girl is prepared on how to compromise, how to not raise her voice, how she should allow body shaming and remain silent.

One day a man sits in her lounge having a cup of coffee, he judges her on her looks, her height, her weight, her body, her skin tone, her hair, and what not. I do not understand how parents allow some stranger to happily sit and enjoy insulting her own daughter…. Does this make any sense?

How can a mother not feel anything for her own daughter ….

How can she not understand…. what her daughter is going through from the day she was born?

How can women not support another woman?

Life in Metro

As usual, I was running late to the office. I booked a Rapido and started my way to the metro station. I paid the driver while reaching the station, jumped off, and ran inside without even thanking him. On the platform, the display showed just one minute for the metro’s arrival. I stood in line, pulled my headphones from my bag, connected them to my phone, and opened Spotify. The metro arrived, and the only good thing so far was that I found a seat. In the rush hour, that’s a rare win. My journey takes about 45 minutes every day, and getting a seat feels almost like a prize. Music played in my ears as I scrolled through my phone. My feet tapped anxiously — I was running late, and my mind was already occupied with the presentation I had to give at the office. Suddenly, the music stopped. At first, I thought it was a Bluetooth issue, so I reconnected. But nothing. Then I checked my phone — no balance left. I needed to recharge. *Perfect.* Another reminder that today wasn’t my day. I took...

One of the Viable Options": The Hardest Rejection I Never Got

*November 27th**—Vikram’s birthday. This morning, I drafted a "happy birthday" text, but I didn't send it. We met as kids at a family gathering. Our childhood was fun; every time we met, it was a blast. We used to see each other at every family event. After a few years, we became serious about our academics, and our paths diverged. Somehow, we lost touch, our worlds became different, and we both moved to separate cities. I can say we may have completely forgotten each other. Years later, in 2020, the world stood still. Everyone was unsure about what tomorrow would bring, and we all started looking backward. Life was stuck; it was hard to imagine living without social media scrolling. I know the lockdown and the virus changed many lives in different ways. It took lives, created distance between some people, and gave second chances to many others who were looking for them. It cast its own strange spell on all of us. One day, while I was mindlessly scrolling through Instagr...

BLOOM

There is a king called Vaibhava, who is so fond of nature, trees, and flowers. He planted a plethora of plants and trees all over his kingdom. Near his fort, he has a beautiful garden. The garden has all kinds of plants from all over the world. The plants in the garden are so many that it is hard to count. The fragrance from the garden spreads the entire fort. The king has appointed a few men to maintain the garden. It is famous all over the kingdom and neighborhood kingdoms as well. One day a worker planted a new plant sapling. All the old plants stared at him and later introduced themselves. After a few days, the new plant started blooming flowers. The flowers are so bright, just like " the Sindhur on Kali matha's forehead". The flowers look pleasant. Everyone is amazed looking at them. The king felt delighted. All the other plants felt envious. The new plant is happily blooming, playing with butterflies, insects, etc. After a few days, a few plants gathered near ...
